Perfect little orange with a stem.

January 15, 2025
Day 2,986

Thankful for:

An early morning. I am healthy enough to get up, to make my kid's lunches, to drive them to the end of the driveway to wait for the bus, and to walk my dog before I head off to my job. I can walk. I can take care of myself. I have food to eat, a home to live in, and a family to love. It was a good feeling to remember that today. I can do things because I have a healthy body and a good life.

I fed my birds before work. I think they're getting used to me, and they might now know the sound of their food pouring out of my red cup into their feeder.

The snowy, snowy forest. I love it. I wish it was snow all day, every day. The cold makes me feel alive.

Patty bought me a latte this morning.

A lovely salad for lunch.

Getting to color with some kids after school.

Helping a little one with math homework.

A beautiful sunset.

Being able to see mountains.

I am thankful every time I make it up the driveway. It is literal ice. You could take ice skates out and skate on it.

A cup of warmed milk with a bit of gingerbread syrup. It was warm and comforting.

I saw some good words the other day: "Silly me, here I was hurrying through all the things I once hoped for." The picture that went with it was a picture of a mother mouse feeding her four mouse children in a cozy room with snow falling outside the window.

More good words: "Maybe today I won't rush so much, just as a little treat."

More good words: "Sorry for the late reply, it's just that we were never meant to live so fast."

More good words: "Almost got so busy that I forgot to go out and look at the moon."

More good words: "Thank you for the offer, but I've got a very important thing that day." Then it says: "That day," and it shows a picture of a mother mouse baking tons of cookies with her mouse children by candlelight.

Tomorrow, I've made plans to get up early so I can have time to go out and watch my birds before work. I'm excited to be quiet and alone in the cold air with no one but the birds to keep me company.

Matt helped me clean up the kitchen from dinner.

Matt took the trash out last night so I wouldn't have to do it this morning.

Higbee waits up for me while I write. He's sleeping on the couch right now waiting for me to go to bed.

Family.

Friends.

Hugs from Matt, Addy, and Tobin.

Higbee was extremely happy to see us when we got home today. He was tippy tapping his toes all over the house and wiggling his body.

Tomorrow is Thursday.

Matt is off on Friday. I like to think about Matt and Higbee spending the day cuddled up together while everyone else is at school.

Time to sleep all night.

I had the perfect orange tonight. It had a perfect little stem, and I don't recall ever seeing an orange with a stem before.
