Day 61
I am here at the beach with my love. We have two whole days to spend together. Thankful for time with Matt. While we stood on the sand tonight looking at the stars and the waves, we talked about how Matt proposed on a beach. Thankful for a pleasant drive. Thankful for my sister and my mom for taking care of our kids and Higbee. Thankful that tomorrow, I can wake up and watch waves. And walk in the sand. And pick shells. And be still and quiet. And read. And be with Matt. Feeling so very thankful tonight.

Kitty Cat Diary.
November 9, 2016
Day 60
I'm thankful for students who come up to me at random times during the day and say, "Can I give you a hug?" I also have kids who raise their hand during a lesson like they have a real question to ask me and say, "Why are you so beautiful?" For real, kids? The real question is: How did I get so lucky? I am thankful for Adelyn who sneaks into my classroom every chance she gets to ask me questions like, "Can we have tacos for dinner? When we get home, can we watch a movie? Can we cuddle tonight while we read? Can you buy me that kitty cat diary from the book fair?" Sometimes I send her scurrying off to class. Other times, I start thinking, "These are important questions." I mean, who doesn't need to know if they can have tacos for dinner? Scheduling time to watch movies is vital. Everyone absolutely needs to know the exact time of their next cuddling session. And the kitty cat diary? Maybe if everyone wrote in a kitty cat diary before bed, we'd all wake up as bright eyed and cheery as Adelyn. How can one not be happy when writing in a kitty cat diary? Complete with lock and two keys. Thankful that it smells like Thanksgiving in my house right now. I've been slow cooking two chickens for about 6 hours, and my house smells of holiday and cozy and warmth and November. Thankful that Tobin went like this when I told him I seeded pomegranates for dinner: "Addy, Mama made pomegranates for DINNER!!!!!!!!!!" Thankful that tomorrow I get to drive away to the beach with my love.
There is much to be thankful for. When I walk away from my computer every night after writing, I walk away with more. I walk away with a deeper appreciation for every day, every breath, every minute, every simple little pleasure. I realize that every second I spent worrying, fearing, or doubting during the day was time wasted. Sand through the hourglass that I will never see again. Sand spent. On something as ridiculous and pointless and meaningless as fear.
Thankful. I choose this. I choose more.

The beach is calling...
November 8, 2016
Day 59
Thankful for impromptu picnics during lunch with my students. I love how sweet and wonderful they are. For a solid five minutes, we all just sat there, eating and admiring the gorgeous day. Thankful for wide open spaces of green grass and blue sky. Thankful for our mock election in class today. My students were so kind and gracious to one another. When two students discovered that they were for different candidates, they didn't scoff at one another. They were kind. They smiled. They were respectful. And it made me proud. They are so good at loving other people. Thankful for such wonderful kids to call mine for a whole year. Thankful for Adelyn and Tobin. Thankful for the way they smell after a bath and lotion. Thankful for time to cuddle with them. Thankful for time to read to them. Thankful that in a few days, I will be at the beach celebrating my wedding anniversary with my love. The beach is calling my name. I cannot wait to dig my feet into the sand. I cannot wait to be still and quiet and stare at the ocean.

Lovely lunch. Lovely day. Thankful.

Day 58
Thankful for a quiet day at school. It always feels good to get a lot of work done. Thankful for a lovely lunch of leftover homemade beef and vegetable soup made by my dad. Food made by my parents always tastes good because it's made with love. Thankful for a lovely brisk day with wind whipping and leaves blowing about. Thankful for evenings when it gets dark early. It makes me feel cozy inside my house with all my loves. Thankful for hugs and kisses from my kids, and my husband, and my pup. It's a nice feeling that there are people in this world who want to hug me and kiss me. It's a nice feeling that there are people who are really excited to see me when I get home from work. Thankful for chamomile tea with lavender. Thankful for little helpers in the kitchen. Adelyn and Tobin helped me make homemade pizza tonight. Thankful for the way they snuck bites of cheese and pepperoni while they helped me prepare. Thankful for a very short work week. Thanksgiving is coming, and then Christmas. And it makes me very excited and thankful and happy.

Sunny Sunday.
November 6, 2016
Day 57
Thankful for a lovely day. Thankful for time to sit and read. Thankful for a house full of good food to eat because we just stocked up at Trader Joe's. Thankful for the way the sunlight pours in through the windows and makes the house feel warm and cozy. Thankful for the wind outside. And the trees. And the leaves. And the way the light looks so alive from 3:30 to 4:30 every afternoon in the fall. Thankful for days when my children play make believe games for hours. I love to hear them playing together. Thankful for a sunny and pleasant Sunday.

It was a happy anniversary!
November 5, 2016
Day 56
Today marks eleven years of marriage to my love, and it was the loveliest day.
-I slept in.
-Matt brought me breakfast in bed.
-I did a lot of reading and relaxing today.
-Matt and I brought the kids and Higbee to my parent's house. The kids and Higbee got to play and run around in the backyard while Matt and I laid in a hammock and watched them. And I got to read some more.
-Matt and I went to dinner.
-We had a delicious dinner and even more delicious dessert.
-We drove through our old childhood neighborhood.
-We finished the night hanging out at my parent's house. Laughing, talking, sipping coffee made in a percolator.
Thankful for Matt. Thankful that he sticks by my side no matter what. Thankful that he's happy when I come home. Thankful that he holds my hand, and hugs me, and kisses me. Thankful for the happy life that I have with him. Thankful for our cozy home, and our precious babies, and our pup, and our things, and our vehicles...basically, everything that I can attach the label, "ours," to, I am incredibly proud of and thankful for. Thankful for his friendship and his love.

Sally Margaret.
November 4, 2016
Day 55
Thankful for hot tea. Thankful for light saber fights between Matt and Tobin. Thankful for Adelyn's baby doll that she has named, Sally Margaret. Thankful for the doll clothes that Omi gave to Adelyn for Sally Margaret. Thankful for the beautiful blue of the sky today. Thankful for the wind. Thankful for the colors of the leaves. Thankful for two whole days off with my loves. Thankful for books to read, food to cook, a house to tidy, clothes to wash. Thankful for a great day at work. I love when I have a great day after I've expected it to be a hard day. Thankful for those days when you don't have to set the alarm clock and check it three times. Thankful for those days when you just go to bed and sleep until the morning.
