The Last Time

Project 365 * 2 -- Day 18

I remember reading this blog post once about, "the last time." I cannot remember where I read it, or who the writer of the blog was, but her point was this: as parents, we are so eager to watch all the firsts occur. We are so anxious to reach those milestones. First word. First step. First taste of ice cream. First Christmas. But, we are sometimes so eager to reach those milestones that we forget about all the in between. And, what about all the lasts? The last time your child wobbles around instead of walking steady. The last time your child refers to you as Mama, and starts calling you Mom. The last time your child calls a banana a "nuna."

That last one happened to me today. Adelyn always has fruit and toast for breakfast. When I asked her whether she wanted an apple or a banana with her toast, she replied, "banana!" I didn't even catch it at the time. Until she said something today that reminded me of the way she used to say banana. "Nuna." And then it hit me. She calls them bananas now. When did she stop saying nuna? Was this the first morning she said banana? Or was I just too busy to realize she's been saying banana for weeks now?

I used to always say, "I wish she was a bit older so I could do this." "I can't wait until they are this age, so we can do this." "Won't it be fun when Adelyn is old enough so that we can...." The list goes on. Not that I didn't enjoy Adelyn as a baby. I did. So much. But, I will never again say those words. I can't wait until...

Yes I can. I can wait.

I'm so thankful that Adelyn still calls me, Mama. I'm thankful that she likes to pretend that she is a baby. I'm thankful that Tobin is still a baby. I'm thankful that I have a 2 year old, and a 3 month old, and basically all we can do is hang out at home, my sister's house, or the playground. And you know what? That's just fine with me. I'm in no rush.

No, Mama. No, I did not just use green marker as lipstick. This was after I wiped some off.

Putting Uncle Shane to bed. She likes to cover people she loves with all of the things that she loves most. Those are all Adelyn's most prized possessions. In one big pile. On top of Shane.

Tobin loves his mobile.

See?

Sophia looking all pretty.

Sitting up with the help of my old pregnancy pillow.

My pictures of Casey boy were all blurry :( Tomorrow, I'll get some good Casey pics!
